Gerhard Lock says:hm, then we have the YT compression, too...
17:26
Hans
Hans says:because then everybody get it in youtube quality, what should be better then that here
17:27
Paul Erlich
Paul Erlich says:but that's what we did last time and it seems better

Joseph Monzo (laptop) says:You can see the connections on the third chord on the torus
17:39
Stephen Weigel
Stephen Weigel says:THIS CHORD is so great
17:41
Joseph Monzo (laptop)
Joseph Monzo (laptop) says:The connections on the torus that are missing are simply due to the unfinished nature of Tonescape.
Joseph Monzo (laptop) says:I was talking about the essentially-tempered third chord, on the torus.
17:52
Juhani Nuorvala
Juhani Nuorvala says:65 steps of 41edo is a very pure 3:1. 65:13=5, so 5 steps of 41 is on BP step (ED3)
Juhani Nuorvala says:one BP step
17:58
Gerhard Lock
Gerhard Lock says:I have looked for the meaning of Tibia, can you comment on why you choosed this title? 😃 https://www.lexico.com/definition/tibia https://www.britannica.com/science/tibia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tibia
17:59
Stephen Weigel
Stephen Weigel says:How did you compose Tibia? Did you think out the progression beforehand or get a lot of it through playing piano? (Or both?) How much experience had you had in 22-equal before writing it?
Stephen Weigel says:Thanks for the explanation! Crazy connection
18:01
Joseph Monzo (laptop)
Joseph Monzo (laptop) says:I can show an example of the 7-limit closed geometry. I call it "crumpled-napkin", because it really does not make sense visually. It's using a 4th dimension which we cannot "see".
Joseph Monzo (laptop) says:http://tonalsoft.com/enc/c/crumpled-napkin.aspx
18:05
Hans
Hans says:Thank you, Joseph
18:06
Joseph Monzo (laptop)
Joseph Monzo (laptop) says:For Tibia, the only single lattice that would really show everything that we are hearing is the crumpled-napkin.
18:08
Paul Erlich
Paul Erlich says:Joseph, can you send Kit
18:09
Joseph Monzo (laptop)
Joseph Monzo (laptop) says:Did I never put Kite's score into Dropbox?

Paul Erlich
Paul Erlich says:Kite's transcription to Hans?
18:09
Juhani Nuorvala
Juhani Nuorvala says:Paul & Joe, could you talk about the "bingo chart" representation a little bit?
18:09
Joseph Monzo (laptop)
Joseph Monzo (laptop) says:I don't remember
Joseph Monzo (laptop) says:Is it possible to post it here right now?
18:09
me says:no, please put in FB
18:10
Stephen Weigel
Stephen Weigel says:Absolutely agree with Hans
18:11
Juhani Nuorvala
Juhani Nuorvala says:Sagittal is easy to make from the up/down notation we have, it's basically the same, only different symbols. Some of our vocal pieces were in Sagittal, some in arrow notation
18:11
Joseph Monzo (laptop)
Joseph Monzo (laptop) says:I just uploaded Kite's corrected score of Tibia to the Facebook chat

Joseph Monzo (laptop) says:Tibia is also the name of a stop on the pipe organ
18:14
Stephen Weigel
Stephen Weigel says:Quite satisfactory! 😃
18:17
Hans
Hans says:👍
18:17
Joseph Monzo (laptop)
Joseph Monzo (laptop) says:Right, that's correct, the repeating bingo-card 7-limit lattice would show everything in Tibia.
18:19
Gerhard Lock
Gerhard Lock says:Sounds amazing, Hans 😃
18:21
Paul Erlich
Paul Erlich says:Joseph, yes but we only need to repeat it in one direction (along 64:63), not 2 like a bingo card or 3 as in a full 7-limit lattice
18:21
Joseph Monzo (laptop)
Joseph Monzo (laptop) says:Hans, you are describing almost exactly what my original concept of Tonescape was. Instead of having the lattice on a computer screen, I want it to be a hologram. The composer/performer stands inside the lattice and basically dances around. As body parts approach the balls which represent ratios the sound gets louder.
18:21
Juhani Nuorvala
Juhani Nuorvala says:VR is the way to go then
18:22
Joseph Monzo (laptop)
Joseph Monzo (laptop) says:There was a lot of future development of Tonescape planned. The idea was to make it an actual playable instrument in the VR manner.
18:22
Gerhard Lock
Gerhard Lock says:Joe, this sounds even more amazing, if this would be possible to program 😃
18:22
Stephen Weigel
Stephen Weigel says:Joe, have we talked about Tonescape potentially becoming a plug-in?
18:23
Juhani Nuorvala
Juhani Nuorvala says:We need (lots of) funds to buy it back. It's stuck.
18:24
Joseph Monzo (laptop)
Joseph Monzo (laptop) says:The only way I can develop the already-existing code of Tonescape is to buy it for USD $20,000 from the original programmer. Otherwise it has to be started all over again from scratch.
18:24
Gerhard Lock
Gerhard Lock says:Yeah, VR would be very cool and as an instrument especially, Juhani 😃
18:24
Joseph Monzo (laptop)
Joseph Monzo (laptop) says:No, I owned the name Tonescape and had a trademark on it until very recently.
18:25
Juhani Nuorvala
Juhani Nuorvala says:It would seem to me that writing it from scratch (hiring programmers) would cost much less than $20,000
18:26
Hans
Hans says:Joe, that is a good idea, to make the lattice as large as a person could stand inside of the lattice.
Hans says:at the moment I thought about a smaller object which could be looked from outside.
18:28
Joseph Monzo (laptop)
Joseph Monzo (laptop) says:Well ... that money represents 2 years of full-time work (with a regular 9-to-5 40-hour work week) that the originally programmer did, back in 2004 to 2006. It's actually cheap for what he did.
18:28
Gerhard Lock
Gerhard Lock says:It seems to be like composed for Guitar - or Stephen is a genius 😃

Paul Erlich
Paul Erlich says:Thank you all for taking such an interest in TIBIA and working towards corrected scores 😃
18:37
Joseph Monzo (laptop)
Joseph Monzo (laptop) says:Kite's score is a little confusing! He retains accidentals all thru the measure.
Joseph Monzo (laptop) says:But there is one measure where Kite uses a C# then he has another C with an arrow, which is really C#^
Joseph Monzo (laptop) says:(I have to look at the score, the arrow might be down and not up)
Joseph Monzo (laptop) says:Yes, it's in measure 9. The first two beats use C#, the second two beats use C#v, but Kite assumes the # to still be in effect and only notates the v
18:40
Stephen Weigel
Stephen Weigel says:that's it yes
18:40
Joseph Monzo (laptop)
Joseph Monzo (laptop) says:My own opinion is that 22 is so different from what we are used to in meantone, every note should have an accidental, even the naturals.
Joseph Monzo (laptop) says:That's how I made all my scores for my recent 22edo compositions.
18:41
Juhani Nuorvala
Juhani Nuorvala says:Agreed
18:41
Stephen Weigel
Stephen Weigel says:Absolutely. It's no harm to treat these situations chromatically
