Post Tenebras Flutes
A phenomenon of a flute orchestra or flute choir has been gaining popularity among the amateur and student flute world but not many professional orchestras are working on a regular basis.
That is why an ensemble Post Tenebras Flûtes is a unique exception, an ensemble based in Geneva, Switzerland, consisting of 18 professional flute players. It was initiated by Estonian flautist Maarika Järvi in the autumn of 2019. Most of the members come from Switzerland and neighbouring France. These professional and enthusiastic musicians are especially passionate about performing contemporary music. Many new works have been written keeping in mind flute’s contemporary techniques capabilities as its range - equivalent of a chamber orchestra, from piccolos to contra bass flute, permits endless repertoire possibilities.
In addition to contemporary works the ensemble is often blurring borders between different genres and epochs: its programmes contain for example music with Jazz and Latin elements as well as arrangements of the works from the Baroque and Classical eras.
As a relatively young group the ensemble has gaining popularity in the its home region France and Switzerland for the last years, PTF is embarking on its first international tour to Estonia and Latvia this July 2022. Among others, music by Estonian living legend Arvo Pärt, Swiss composer Daniel Schnyder, Dutch Wil Offermans , can be heard during the ensemble’s Estonian/Latvian tour in July 2022 with concerts at the Glasperlenspiel Festival in Tartu; as part of an Opera Festival Overture Pärnu; in Tallinn, Arvo Pärt Centre and in Riga, Great Gild Hall Lielā ģilde
Ensemble’s name is a reference to Geneva motto, Post Tenebras Lux, since the beginning of the activity of this ensemble coincided with beginning of the global pandemic, the name reflects hope for a brighter future Light after Darkness, through the sound of flutes.
